Contraceptive pill with Lymphoedema?

Postby Sarah1234 » Tue Dec 04, 2012 6:11 pm

Hi everyone :)
Just wondering to all women out there, is it ok for those with lymphoedema to go on the combined contraceptive pill? I asked my GP before he prescribed it to me (it's a low oestrogen one by the way) and he didn't seem to think there'd be any problem. For a bit of background info, my lymphoedema is lower limb in my right foot and was caused by several injuries about 2 1/2 years ago. (vascular specialist seems to think it could be primary and triggered by the injury or it could be secondary - having that lymphatic radiation injection thing in both my feet later this month to determine whether its primary or not). Basically the lymphoedema is not breast-cancer related, which I know sometimes would mean you couldn't go on certain contraceptives.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks :)

Hey Ya Sarah

Good question. This comes up from time to time. Since your LE isn't BC related, my only concern would be that the pills doe make you more susceptible for blood clots. However, I have not heard of any lympher ever having one because of any contraception - so that to me is a big positive.

I researching this again too and will let you know if I find anything negative on it.
