(1) amikacin /am·i·ka·cin/ (am?i-ka´sin) a semisynthetic aminoglycoside antibiotic derived from kanamycin, used as the sulfate salt in the treatment of a wide range of infections due to aerobic gram-negative bacteria.

(2) An antibiotic drug used to treat infection. It belongs to the family of drugs called aminoglycoside antibiotics.
